What constitutes abnormal labour?
Abnormal labour, or labour dystocia, is a labour that does not progress normally. This condition can lead to severe complications, including morbidity (disease state ) and mortality (death) for both mother and child. It is essential to recognize that Caesarean sections are not a form of abnormal labour but rather a medical intervention when an abnormal labour process is detected by a doctor or accoucheur. Suffice it to say that the primary factor in determining whether labour is normal or abnormal is the outcome, not the delivery method. In Nigeria, understanding the concept of abnormal labour is vital, as refusing surgical delivery when recommended has resulted in significant maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality. Prompt medical attention is necessary when signs of abnormal labour are present to prevent complications and promote better health outcomes. Dr. Duke Onoriode UDHEKRU PRO, Edo NMA

Get tested: Know your HIV status and get tested regularly, especially if you’re sexually active. 3. Avoid sharing personal items: Don’t share razors, toothbrushes, or other personal items that may have come into contact with blood or bodily fluids. Transmission 1. HIV is not spread through: Casual contact, such as hugging, kissing, or sharing food and drinks. 2. HIV is spread through: Unprotected sex, sharing needles or syringes, and mother-to-child transmission during pregnancy, childbirth, or breastfeeding. Treatment 1. The virus can be suppressed by taking some combination therapy consistently and you will live healthy if you do. 2. Adherence: Adhering to treatment regimens is crucial to managing HIV and preventing transmission. 3. Regular check-ups: Regular health check-ups are essential to monitor the effectiveness of treatment and address any concerns. Stigma and Support 1. Break the stigma: Educate yourself and others about HIV/AIDS to reduce stigma and promote understanding. 2. Support networks: Connect with support networks, such as HIV/AIDS organizations, to access resources, counseling, and community. 3.
